Paul Zeh "Primus" Doppelformat |
Extremly rare dual format Zeh "Primus" made in Dresden in 1937. The 1934 single format
version was called "Bettax" then in 1937 Zeh decided to make a dual
format "Doppelformat" camera. This was I believe to be one of the first prototypes
to be made before he named the new model, which was "Primus".
This was the name from a discontinued plate camera that he used to meke.
When you mention Primus, most people think of the plate camera, so you need to
differentiate with doppelformat. This one is only marked "Doppelformat".
IIt uses a mask to provide 6x9 or 4.5x6 formats. It also has a flip up secondary mask in the viewfinder, Rodenstock Trinar f4.5 and a Compur shutter. rAll of the hardware appears to be nickle or nickle-silver plated. It has dual red windows in the back with a sliding cover. It is a very nice camera and well built. If you have one of these or have ever seen one, send me an E'Mail and let me know! |
